Press Release : "Afghanistan's Temporary Suspension Lifted"

Afghanistan has been a candidate member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) since 2010, but its membership with EITI got suspended due to its poor performance in the years 2014 and 2017.

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has held regular meetings of the Multilateral Group (MSG), including government officials, civil society and the private sector; in addition to brining reforms within state-owned enterprises and ensuring transparency in the process of awarding contracts and licenses, AEITI has made excellent progress in meeting the requirements of EITI standard in the second Validation process.

Afghanistan’s suspension was lifted by the EITI board in its meeting which was held today and it also met the requirement 12.5 of Geneva's conference.

We are grateful to all our partners in the extractive industries sector and congratulate all our countrymen on this great achievement.
