MSG Session with World Bank Mission

On Monday 20th May the MSG held a meeting with the World Bank mission who visited Kabul. The mission objectives were (i) to provide technical support to AEITI MSG and the national secretariat for improved reports and disclosures, improved institutional mechanisms, and systematizing data disclosures and (ii) to analyze internal data systems of the MoF and MoMP and (iii) to provide recommendations for improved collection and use of data for extractive sector governance. The team was scheduled to meeting with other stakeholders including and key development partners working in the extractive sector. The mission comprised of Mr. Sridar Padmanabhan, mining consultant and Mr. Damian Brett, senior mining specialist. The meeting focused on issues pertaining to implementing EITI within Afghanistan and the challenges to meet EITI requirements in order to get compliance status. The mission discussed the systemization and disclosure of AEITI estimated work plan budget and as well as other topics such as validation timeline, revalidation where Mr. Sridar added that the World Bank did not want Afghanistan to be suspended again and corrective actions were required to avoid another suspension and to do so he added that producing a quality AEITI report, improved MSG governance, systemization and disclosure issues were highly significant to be focused on.
