Mohammad Haroon Chakhansori Minister of Mines and Petroleum: The National Assembly, as a legislative body, can cooperate with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum in legislation and overseeing its implementation

The coordination meeting of the Afghanistan Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (AEITI) ‌ and the Natural Resources Commission of the National Assembly, chaired by Minister of Mines and Petroleum Mohammad Haroon Chakhansuri, was held in person and online on June 3rd.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Policy and Programs, the Chairman and members of the Natural Resources Commission, domestic and international partners of AEITI, GIZ, and the World Bank.

Welcoming the participants, Minister of Mines and Petroleum Mohammad Haroon Chakhansuri said: "The National Assembly, as a legislative body, can cooperate with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum in the field of legislation and monitoring its implementation."

In this meeting, preliminary information about Afghanistan Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, cooperation of international donors and stakeholders was presented to the participants by the head of AEITI secretariat – to get more support for a wide variety of stakeholders to improve the governance of the extractive sector.

At the end of the meeting, the leadership of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, AEITI and the members of the National Assembly Natural Resources Commission pledged their full cooperation for transparent and accountable management of the extractive industry sector and to ensure good governance.
