AEITI Self-assesment Workshop Held

A four-day AEITI MSG self-assessment workshop was held on 4th November 2019 in Dubai, UAE with the kind support of GIZ – arranging this workshop was part of both AEITI Action and Work Plan to enable Afghanistan restore its candidature with EITI. This workshop was attended by two Afghan delegations where one was led by Deputy Minister of Policy of Ministry of Mines and Petroleum while the other group was headed by chair of the parliamentary committee for Environment and Natural Resources.

The Workshop was also attended by representatives from GIZ, The World Bank Group, EITI International Secretariat, USAID and the Independent Administrator who recently produced the 6th AEITI report.

The workshop was aimed to address major challenges to the implementation of EITI standard and to develop a road-map which would help Afghanistan shape its request to restoring its candidacy with EITI. Besides discussions took place on a series of other critical matters but not limited to disclosure of the mining contracts and their due procedures, state of business between Government and State-Owned Enterprises, Production and Export Data and the proper implementation of EITI standard for the development of the Extractive Industry of Afghanistan.

The workshop would pave way for Afghanistan to restore its candidacy with EITI and lift suspension and would also add to the knowledge and experience of the participants on EITI implementation.
